TRAIL CONDITIONS & RIDING INFORMATION

3/26/13
Club Members,
We are concerned about the lack of snow in the low areas and our respect for the landowners as we don't want to be riding mud on their properties.  With the temperatures rising and the snow quickly disappearing it will be necessary to close the trail for the season at the end of the day Wednesday (27th).

3/21/13
Lake Effect Trails are currently open for limited use.  Please use extreme caution when riding as all areas will be ungroomed.  When approaching areas with limited snow please exercise your best judgment and select and alternate route.  Please report dangerous trail conditions or hazards via Facebook, our web site or Trail Coordinator Don Cornell 716-450-3043.  Keep informed as to conditions and closing by checking daily.  Cherry Creek and Chautauqua Lake trails are also open at this time.

3/8/13 - It is the consensus of the team that with the arrival of new snow last night and adequate base in higher elevation we will remain open through Saturday night. All areas on our trails will close at sunrise Sunday morning due to melting and higher temperatures. This will be the last ride of the season so PLEASE stick to the higher elevations and DO NOT go into the towns. Plan ahead for fuel and food and use commons sense. The conditions are very limited so ride smart and do not ride into areas where the snow coverage has disappeared. Use trail heads in or near the state forest, but not in the actual towns of Gerry, Kennedy or Kimble Stand. Trail 1D remains closed from Gerry to Hanson Road due to dangerous conditions.

3/5/13 - TRAIL "1D" IS CLOSED FROM KNIGHT ROAD IN ROSS MILLS TO HANSON ROAD DUE TO EXTREMELY TREACHEROUS ICY CONDITIONS....LAKE EFFECT....

2/27/13 - The trail remains open but use your best judgment in selecting a route. There is limited to no snow in some areas, so respect landowners by turning around if you reach thin snow and selecting an alternate route until we receive more snow. See you at the next meeting Tuesday night (5th) at Feegan's in Sinclairville 7:30PM…

2/11/13
All Chautauqua County Trails are closed.

2/10/13
All Chautauqua County Trails will probably close as it is slushy and bare. Our trails will close due to poor conditions.

2/7/13
Get out and enjoy the snow while it is still here. All our trails have been groomed in the past day and Lake Effect Trails remains good. Log in to the web or Facebook later this weekend for possible trail closing as conditions change due to the weather.
Please support our club member Austin Cowen and Ellington Fire Department Jr.'s this Saturday mid- day (9th) at their trail side concession. They will be set up on Trail S-17 along Watkins road which is east of Ellington. Trail #1 will take you to Ellington or Kennedy where either leads to S-17. They will be serving grilled food along with beverages.
Lake Effect Winter Party at Feegan's Witch Kitch. Keep watch for the date and details soon!

Members,
The Chautauqua County Ride In, in Stockton has been canceled/postponed as we are concerned for land owners and lack of snow.
The Federation wants all clubs to be responsible in grooming as the ground is not frozen in many areas and we don't want to burn our relationship with our wonderful landowners. The ride in was canceled / postponed until the 23rd.
Will be keeping the web site updated.
Just keep praying for SNOW!!!!!!!!

2/4/13
All Chautauqua County trails are currently open. Riders should use extreme caution and be alert for changes in trail conditions. Joins us Wed. night at the Backyard in Kimball Stand for our club meeting at 7:30 pm. Ride safe.

2/2/13
From our club president :
Finally...we have permission to open...."Lake Effect trails are open Sunday morning.. Use caution as there are bumps, lows spot and some wet areas...All other county trail remain closed....Ticket are being wrote on closed trails!!! Please respect the other areas of the county and only ride Sincliarville, Gerry, Ellington and outside of Kennedy...The Kennedy trail and Kimblestand trail are both closed for high water and ice...Ride responsibly....

2/1/13
Word on the trails is..."A lot of snow has fallen over Chautauqua County the club is working hard to guarantee the safety of the trail and getting the groomers through Saturday morning. Check our web site or Facebook to see when and where to ride hopefully mid day Saturday"

1/24/13
PLEASE
don't ride the sidewalks to the Country Fair in Gerry. It is a safety issue and illegal. The Sheriff's Department will start issue tickets. If you must fuel up there it is permissible to ride the road edge from the Rodeo Grounds to the store and back. Our club encourages you to ride 6 miles north to the Sinclairville Superette for fuel and supplies as they are a supporter of our club. Please ride responsibly and help protect our image with the non-riding public.

Dave Robbins President

All trails to open Wednesday morning - Jan 23rd

Please use caution on the East end of our club area (near Kennedy) - we have reports that the snow may be thin in that area. As always, communicate back to the club if any hazardous conditions exist...

January 3, 2013 - reported by: Gary Risley

I just got a call from the Cherry Creek Sno Goers regarding a problem between KMD and Cockaigne. Thought the trail DOES NOT continue north along Thornton Road past KMD, riders have been riding through the properties along the roadside and through people's lawns. It has come to our attention that one of the landowners has put up a cable across his property to stop snowmobilers from entering. We will be marking the cable with ribbons in an attempt to keep riders from being injured. But please understand that this is not a trail and should NOT be used as a short cut to and from Cockaigne. Please pass this on to our fellow riders. Ride Safe!

Remember that we owe alot to the landowners, so PLEASE show respect to the trails. The members of our club volunteer their time to support and sustain great snowmobile trails. Their efforts make riding the trails a pleasure. We would love to have your help too!  Join the club!  (see our "About Our Club" page to print out our membership application)
